‘A very human trade: the archaeology of slavery’ 2007 Conference

May, 2009 · Written by: John Tierney Print This Page This entry is part 14 of 34 in the Issue 02

Slavery conference held in 2007 is reviewed in Antiquity.

‘Well over 100 million people had been enslaved over the course of human history and, of these, 11 million were Africans transported to the Caribbean and southern United States.’

How is this manifest in the archaeological record?

One of the contributors to the conference, David Wyatt Cardiff University, has just published Slaves and Warriors in Medieval Britain and Ireland, 800 -1200. (It costs 146 dollars - will have to save up for it!)
