Crimestat: a free spatial statistics program

May, 2009 · Written by: Maurizio Toscano Print This Page This entry is part 15 of 34 in the Issue 02

During the first phase of GIS analysis conducted over the data from the N18 Oranmore-Gort archaeological project, I found very useful a spatial statistics program developed for the analysis of crime incident locations, Crimestat. The software is free and is enriched with a wide and well done manual. It has the ability to work with shapefile as input and output and the graphic interface make it very easy to use.

For our research we used to date the following tools:

  • Ripley’s “K” statistic
  • Nearest Neighbour Hierarchical Spatial Clustering
  • K-Means Clustering

The program can be download for free here.
